This page provides some information on the upcoming NEW PERSPECTIVES ON ELVIS CONFERENCE at the University of Memphis.
If you have further queries please contact Mark Duffett.
Q: WHERE IS THE CONFERENCE BEING HELD?
Q: WHERE CAN I STAY IN MEMPHIS?
You can stay where you like, but some parts of this large city are safer than others. We recommend you stay on campus at the FOGELMAN EXECUTIVE CENTRE. It is a really nice, newly remodelled venue and all the beds are single queens. The Centre is less than 10 minutes walk to the conference venue, it comes with parking facilities and operates a complimentary shuttle bus from and to Memphis Airport. If you book before 20th July 2017, we have arranged a special rate for conference delegates of $90 per night. Just call this number and mention that you are coming for the Elvis conference: 901-678-5410.
Q: CAN I PARK ON CAMPUS?
Yes, but if you are not staying overnight on campus, you will need a parking pass. They cost $4 per day. Please email Amanda Nell Edgar <firstname.lastname@example.org> at the University of Memphis before 1st August 2017 to arrange your pass.
Q: ARE YOU HOLDING ANY SOCIAL EVENTS AROUND THE CONFERENCE?
The conference is likely to be a small one, so at present we do not have anything formally planned, but some of us will aim to informally continue socializing on the Monday evening.
On the following day (Tuesday 22nd), Mark Duffett has arranged a trip to Tupelo with Memphis Mike Freeman. This is a rare chance to take a day-long tour (approximately 9am to 5pm) with an very well informed, local, Elvis expert. Mike Freeman has not only written his own books and produced DVDs. He also used to own Elvis’s house on Audubon Drive. The tour costs $95 per person. Unfortunately, its cost is not included in the conference registration. If you plan to join the tour, please contact Mark Duffett well in advance. He will tell you what to do next. (Please note that the $15 entry fee into the Elvis Presley Birthplace Park is not included in the price and is payable on the day.)
